🚀 Tasty News in CPG
The Online Community for Food and Beverage Startups
Hey ,
This e-mail is coming to you a day late, on a Tuesday because who wants to work on Memorial Day? Well, many of us crazy entrepreneurs but at least we should try to take some time off. Question for you, are you doing everything you can to retain your existing customers? Both D2C and wholesale? I've been on the brand and the buyer side, and I can tell you from first-hand experience that most of us are doing a TERRIBLE job at building actual relationships with our customers and are not encouraging them to purchase again. Here are 3 high-ROI activities you can do that will increase your sales and profit.
Call your top 5 D2C customers each month and personally thank them.
Create an e-mail list with all of your wholesale buyers and e-mail them at least once per month with the latest updates from your brand. Make it engaging and share behind the scenes as a founder/brand.
Create a schedule to call your retail buyers every 30/60/90 days (depending on their preference) and ask how you can support the store to drive velocity.
What other tactics are you doing?
And now to some tasty news...

JOYFUL CO. REDESIGN
MARKETING FUNNELS
What am I thinking about this week for Joyful Co? I'm planning out our marketing activities and was reminded about a common misconception about the marketing funnel. If you're unfamiliar, a marketing or sales funnel visualizes the process that most consumers experience when engaging with your product from awareness to purchase to advocacy. Most people think that since the customer starts at the top of the funnel, that's where they need to invest first. But that's wrong. As a brand, you actually want to invest in optimizing from the bottom of the funnel up. Why? A few reasons:
Advocates who love your brand have a higher order frequency, AOV, and drive awareness through recommendations. You should do EVERYTHING you can to keep these people happy and engaged.
If you spend all your money driving traffic to your site and it's not optimized for conversion, then you're literally just giving money away to Facebook and Google.
It's CHEAPER to invest in lower funnel activities and they have a higher ROI.
So as I'm building out our Joyful Co. marketing materials you better belive I'm starting at the bottom.
