A COMPLETE GUIDE TO INGREDIENT SUBSTITUTIONS
Sometimes a secret ingredient is magical and unique. Without it, the dish just isn’t the same. But most ingredients are standard and there’s no harm in swapping them out. Ingredient substitutions can reduce the costs of producing food and give you more flexibility if something becomes harder to find.
However, no matter what you’re manufacturing, substitution of ingredients is not a simple thing! It’s challenging to find subtle ways to improve the food without fundamentally changing the recipe. With the right knowledge, it’s possible to change one or more ingredients without anyone noticing the difference.
Here, we’ll cover the top 3 considerations to keep in mind before substituting an ingredient.

SKU, the nation’s first accelerator for consumer packaged goods (CPGs), has selected the five companies for the third cohort of SKU Dallas. The five brands span a wide range of categories, from functional beverages to sexual wellness. For the first time in SKU’s history, all of the brands in the cohort are female founded.
The SKU Dallas ’22 Participants are:
Mortal Ventures: Becca Schepps launched Mortal Kombucha to appeal to people who love soda and other functional energy drinks but might never try kombucha. Mortal Kombucha is a rebel kombucha brand with both a hard kombucha and non-alcoholic kombucha. In addition to kombucha, Mortal sells a functional sparkling water.
Nakey: Founded by Shawna Watterson and Hannah Rose, Nakey is a female-owned sexual wellness and body product company challenging conventional standards of beauty and sexuality. Its flagship offering is the playfully named Muff Masque, which is a fragrance-free sheet mask for your vulva.
OMNI Bev: Founder Tammy Huynh created the first ready-to-drink authentic Vietnamese cold brew coffee. From the grower to the roaster, the single-origin coffee beans are harvested directly from her family farm in Vietnam. OMNI Bev, would like to introduce the rest of the world to the Vietnamese coffee culture through their coffee products as well as virtual tasting experiences.
Pippy Sips: After facing her own problems when pumping breast milk, Amberlee Venti created Pippy Sips to develop pumping accessories that improve upon the status quo. The first product, Maia™, is a patented, award-winning system for storing, cooling and monitoring breastmilk.

MASTER YOUR RETAILER DATA
Are you growing in retail but losing a grasp on what's happening with your business? I've found that once you surpass about 100 stores it becomes really challenging to understand what's happening at each one. That's why I recommend using Crisp.
Crisp is a powerful platform that allows you to build a comprehensive sales dashboard to see all your retail, distributor, and online sales in one place. It's built for emerging brands and used by companies including Mid Day Squares.
How can Crisp Help?

Identify expansion opportunities
It can very easily help you make more money and save costs. We negotiated a special offer with Crisp. Benefits include a
data strategy consultation, reduced pricing, and a free 60-day trial.
