A USP is a simple way of explaining what your product is, who it’s for, and what makes it different. It's important to have a crystal clear USP so that you can communicate the right information to the right customer at the right time. This is useful for consumers, retailers, distributors, partners, and investors.
Here’s an example Unique Selling Proposition for Justin’s Nut Butters:
Justin’s are a variety of nut butters…
For fitness-focused adults…
Who are looking for natural protein foods …
That are simple, healthy, and clean.
Unlike traditional nut butters like Jif or Skippy,
Justin’s nut butter come in squeezable on the go packs with sustainably sourced ingredients and made with no added sugar.
Let’s breakdown how this value proposition is structured so you can write one for your products.
[Product name] is a [category frame of reference]
For [target customer]
Who wants/needs [compelling reason to buy]
Which provides [main benefit]
Unlike [main competitive product]
[product name] has/is [key differentiation]
This simple format explains everything you need to know about your product. Use this Value Proposition internally and with agencies and consultants.
